It was a week of wonderful parties in a rarefied setting.
On Wednesday, Burberry took over Lucien, the East Village canteen frequented by art insiders, chain-smoking models and Chloë Sevigny. About 60 guests drank martinis and ate steak frites during the 10-day pop-up with Burberry’s diamond pattern on everything, including the awning, stools and of course invited friends.
The artist Laila Gohar and her sister, Nadia, celebrated their surreal tableware line, Gohar World, in a tucked-away rooftop garden above Rockefeller Center. The sunset party on Tuesday came from the sisters’ fashionable circle, which included Emily Bode, Simone Rocha and Beverly Nguyen.
And last Sunday, “Downton Abbey: A New Era” premiered at the stately Metropolitan Opera, followed by an after-party at Tavern on the Green, which has been transformed into a villa on the Côte d’Azur.
The Gohar World party featured white doves, root vegetables and a DJ set from Mark Ronson.
A lot of champagne was spilled at the party for ‘Downton Abbey’. “The widow wouldn’t approve,” said a guest.
Burberry not only replaced the canopy for its pop-up Lucien, but also created special plates, napkins, coasters and matchbooks.
