A draft law to tackle the problems in the Malayalam film industry, including those faced by women, will be ready in a month, said Culture Minister Saji Cherian.

“The Ministry of Culture will complete the process of drafting the law within a month. It will then be submitted to the legal department for vetting,” he said The Hindu on Friday on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Kerala Regional International Film Festival here.

Mr Cherian stated that the cabinet would discuss the final draft before submitting it to the Assembly for approval, and said the draft bill would be based on the recommendations of the Adoor Gopalakrishnan and K. Hema committees set up to take measures. identify and recommend solving the various problems in the Malayalam film industry.

Mr Cherian said the bill will be published in the public domain after the due legal process has been completed. “The government will hold discussions with the various film agencies and the Women in Cinema Collective before finalizing the draft,” he said.
