Bangladeshi all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been banned from the opening test against Sri Lanka due to a finger injury. The 24-year-old suffered the injury while playing for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the current edition of the Dhaka Premier League.
Miraz injured his finger during a catch by Tamim Iqbal in his team’s match against Prime Bank Cricketers Club on Sunday, April 24 at the BKSP. Habibul Bashar, one of the members of the selection panel, highlighted the development around the Khulna-born cricketer.
“He (Mehidy) is absolutely banned from the opening test due to a hairline injury, while he is also doubtful for the second test,” said Bashar.
Sri Lanka will reach Bangladesh on Sunday, May 8, and will play a two-day exhibition game, starting on Wednesday, May 11 at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chattogram. The opening test of the two-match test kicks off on Sunday, May 15 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
The second and final Test will take place at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium from Monday, May 23. Both matches are part of the 2021-23 cycle of the World Test Championship (WTC). Bangladesh is eighth in the points list with 12 points.
