World No. 3 Alexander Zverev devised a stunning tennis match to defeat one of the pre-tournament favorites and Spanish sensation, Carlos Alcaraz, in the quarterfinals of the men’s singles at the 2022 French Open on Tuesday. The German star stormed into his second consecutive semi-final at Roland Garros after his first win over a top-10 player in his Grand Slam journey.

Alexander Zverev defeated Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7) in a quarter-final that lasted 3 hours 18 minutes to end the Spanish teenager’s dream run on clay . Zverev proved his opponents wrong as he wasn’t talked about much in the run-up to the French Open.

Alcaraz, who won the Madrid Open after beating Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic to turn heads, fought back after losing 2 sets, but it wasn’t enough when Zverev increased his bet.

“He’s going to win this tournament many times, not just once. I hope I have a chance to win this tournament before he beats us all in the French Open,” Zverev paid a beautiful tribute to Alcaraz.

The Spanish youngster, touted as the next big thing, dealt with his defeat with grace as he spoke to Zverev at the net and acknowledged the support of the crowd before making his way to the tunnel.

Zverev will face the winner of the 2nd quarterfinal between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal in the semifinals of the French Open 2022.
