GT vs CSK: Ambati Rayudu becomes 10th Indian to reach 4000-run mark in Indian Premier League

Chennai Super Kings star Ambati Rayudu joined an elite IPL roster on Sunday when he became the 10th Indian batter to score 4000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The right-hander achieved the feat during the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) match against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium on Sunday.

He also became the 13th overall batter in the cash-rich T20 tournament. On Sunday, April 17, Andhra Pradesh native Rayudu came to bat after GT debutant fast bowler Alzari knocked out Joseph Moeen Ali in the last over of the mandatory power play.

The MS Dhoni-led Super Kings had lost two wickets in the power play when Rayudu came into the middle. The 36-year-old hasn’t had the best campaigns in the IPL to date, with just 55 runs in CSK’s first three games averaging 18.33 with a top score of 27.

The New Achievement of Ambati Rayudu

Previously, the Super Kings released him for the mega sale two months ago, but bought him back for a price of INR 6.75 crores. The Sunrisers, led by Kane Williamson, and Rishabh Pant, led by Rishabh Pant, also bid for him, but the four-time IPL champions secured his services.

Before the game against SRH, Rayudu came 29 runs short of the 4000 run. Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni, Robin Uthappa, Gautam Gambhir, Dinesh Karthik and Ajinkya Rahane are the other Indian batters with over 4000 runs in the IPL.

Capitals’ David Warner, Jamaican Chris Gayle and former South African batter AB de Villiers are the foreign players who have reached the milestone.
