Young batter Harry Brook is about to make his Test debut, as England named their playing XI for the third and final Test against South Africa. The last of the three tests will begin on Thursday, September 8 at London’s Kennington Oval.

Brook made his international debut in the five-game T20I series against the West Indies, before also playing against Rohit Sharma’s India. The friction of the green went Brook’s way after Jonny Bairstow suffered an injury while playing golf.Brook is likely to hit in the middle order after replacing Bairstow in the eleven. In the meantime, Bairstow was also banned from the T20 World Cup to be played in Australia later this year. In his place, the British team called in Alex Hales, who made his comeback in England after almost three and a half years.The 32-year-old Bairstow is also the leading test run scorer in 2022, with over 1000 runs.In the meantime, apart from replacing Bairstow with Brook, England made no changes to their playing XI. Brook has played 56 first-class matches, scoring 3,067 runs with seven centuries and 17 half-centuries.The ongoing three-match test series is currently at 1-1. The Proteas won the opening Test at Lord’s with an innings and 12 runs, then the Three Lions won the second Test in Manchester with an innings and 85 runs.
