The newly appointed Lucknow Super Giants captain has been on the receiving end of a number of social media trolls about his social media post following the new franchise’s opening day defeat in the Indian Premier League. Rahul’s men missed a chance to start their new campaign with a win as they failed to defend a 158 run target in a final-over thriller against fellow newbies Gujarat Titans on Monday .
In an effort to keep up the spirits, KL Rahul took to social media and said it felt like Lucknow Super Giants had won their IPL 2022 opener, and spoke of the brave fight displayed by the team.

“This one felt like a win because of the way we fought. Proud,” said KL Rahul.
Part of cricket was taken aback by Rahul’s comment as they trolled the new LSG captain.

Lucknow Super Giants got off to a horror start after captain KL Rahul was knocked down for 0 by Gujarat Titans pacer Mohammed Shami in the very first episode of the match. The India pacer ran through the LSG top order, taking 3 wickets to stagger them at 29/4.
However, middle-class batters Deepak Hooda and 22-year-old Ayush Badoni rebuilt, hitting against fifty each, helping them to put down 158 on the board.
Lucknow did well with the ball in the first half despite handy 30’s from Matthew Wade and Hardik Pandya. KL Rahul’s side had the upper hand as Gujarat needed 68 from the last 5 overs.
Rahul’s preference to use his spinners, Hooda and Ravi Bishnoi, despite having 2 overs each from pacers Avesh Khan and Dushmantha Chameera cost them the match as Rahul Tewatia and David Miller took 39 runs from the two overs of the spinner.
RAHUL’S BIZARRE COMMENTS
Speaking after the defeat, Rahul praised Lucknow’s fight, both with the bat and the ball, as they passed the game to the latter.
“It was a phenomenal game. What a way to start the campaign. Starting with the bat like that wasn’t ideal, but the way we recovered was phenomenal. It gives us so much confidence when the middle and lower order batters do the work We know that with the Wankhede the ball can do something in the beginning and if we can get through that that will be ideal.
“We couldn’t have started the campaign in a better way. There is so much for us to take and learn for us. Sometimes you have to give it to the quality of the bowler,” Rahul added.
