  • CSK put on a dominant show against SRH

Ruturaj Gaikwad equaled the legendary Sachin Tendullkar to become the fastest Indian to score 1000 in the Indian Premier League. He took 31 matches to reach Tendulkar’s long-standing record and is followed by Suresh Raina who achieved the feat in 34 matches.

On Sunday, May 1, playing at Pune’s Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, the local lad took over from SunRisers Hyderabad’s bowling attack and knocked everything out of the park during his 99-run innings. Gaikwad scored with a strike rate of 173 and reached 6 limits and 6 sixes, but fell only once from what could have been a memorable hundred.

He teamed up with Devon Conway to score 182 runs for the opening stands before coming out in the last ball of the 18th over. Gaikwad has been on and off this season and is hoping to do well after the captaincy in the Chennai Super Kings camp. The Chennai team announced on Saturday that Ravindra Jadeja had chosen to return the captain’s armband to MS Dhoni.

Ruturaj Gaikwad seemed to have reacted well to the news as CSK came out with all weapons after taking a moment to assess the pace of the track. He held the longstanding record of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who had raced to 1000 runs in the year 2010. Tendulkar scored 618 runs that season with a strike rate of 132.6.
