Kuldeep Sen bowls with a lot of heart – Trent Boult on RR’s young pace sensation

Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson on Sunday praised young Kuldeep Sen, who successfully defended 15 runs in the final of a thrilling chase against a raging Marcus Stoinis, while Lucknow Super Giants missed a 166-run goal with 4 runs at Wankhede Stadium in IPL 2022.

Sanju Samson entrusted the 25-year-old, who played his first game in the IPL, with the huge responsibility of knocking over the final, even as Marcus Stoinis went on a six-hitting spree, giving Lucknow an opportunity after being reduced to 126 /8 left in the 18th after a stunning burst of new ball from Trent Boult and 4 wickets away from Yuzvendra Chahal.

Stoinis looked set for an incredible chase after taking 19 runs in the penultimate over bowled by Prasidh Krishna. However, the young Kuldeep kept his composure and threw no less than 3 dot balls at Stoinis in the final to close the match.

Samson praised Kuldeep’s skill and said the Madhya Pradesh pacer had impressed him with his ability to beat wide yorkers and the way he bowled his first 3 overs gave the kipper the confidence to surrender the last one.

“It (giving him the last one) depends on how he bowled his first three overs. I thought he did a really good job and had the confidence to bowl those wide yorkers. Which I also saw in Syed Mushtaq Ali, after Royals picked him up. He is a special talent and could be for India soon,” said Samson.

Kuldeep, 25, has played 16 first-class matches for Madhya Pradesh, 5 List-A games and a total of 15 T20Is so far in his burgeoning career. He was bought for his base price of Rs 20 lakh.

Kuldeep is from Hariharpur and his father, Rampal, runs a salon in their town. Kuldeep made a splash in his first Ranji Trophy season, taking 24 wickets in just 9 games for Madhya Pradesh. As Samson said, Kuldeep has impressed with his control in white ball cricket.

BOULT ON KULDEEP

RR star Trent Boult praised the young pacesetter and said it’s good to see Kuldeep rush in at full speed and do the work for their team in the new season.

“He’s a great guy, bowls with heart. Performed under pressure and will only grow through such experience. There are some high quality fast bowling assets at our side and throughout the tournament,” said Boult.

RR’s 3-run win over LSG helped them jump to the top of the IPL 2022 table even if 5 teams are tied on 6 points from 4 matches.
