  • On Wednesday, RCB defeated LSG by 13 runs
  • LSG’s campaign in IPL 2022 ended after defeat in the Eliminator
  • Rahul also praised fast bowler Mohsin Khan

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul said Rajat Patidar’s knock played a vital role in LSG’s defeat in the Eliminator against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. On Wednesday, May 25, Patidar crushed an undefeated 54-ball 112 using 12 fours and a whopping seven sixes.

On the back of Patidar’s knock, the Challengers scored 207 after being put into bat first. The goal of 208 turned out to be too high for Rahul and Co., as they lost the game by 14 runs. Patidar also became the fifth batter after Shane Watson, Murali Vijay, Virender Sehwag and Wriddhiman Saha to score a century in an IPL knockout match.

Bangalore native Rahul also felt that LSG let itself down on the pitch with some sloppy bits of fielding.

“It’s pretty clear why we didn’t win the game. We lowered ourselves into the field. The difference between the teams was Patidar’s knock. If a player from the top plays a good trick, the team wins,” Rahul said after the game.

Despite the loss, Rahul promised to make a comeback after learning from their mistakes this season. He also praised the fast left-arm bowler Mohsin Khan, who was one of the standout players in the tournament among uncapped players.

“It’s a new franchise. We made a lot of mistakes, but you have to learn from them and come back stronger. We are a young team. The Under 25 group has done well in patches. Mohsin Khan has shown everyone how good he is and what skills he possesses.

“It’s his first season and it’s important to build confidence here and go home and work harder. He will get more speeds and perform better next year,” Rahul added.
