Microsoft Flight Simulator’s Top Gun expansion launches as a free update

Microsoft’s highly anticipated Top Gun: Maverick extension for Microsoft Flight Simulator is now available for free to all players. After the film was delayed to match the film’s rescheduled release date, Top Gun expansion arrived Wednesday to test players’ pilot skills.

The free update includes a Top Gun: Maverick Edition livery for the F/A-18E Super Hornet, three training missions for the Super Hornet, and even a particularly demanding landing challenge for an aircraft carrier. The training missions are for training Microsoft Flight Simulator players to take off unlimited, maneuver at high speed and learn the low altitude stunts found in Top Gun: Maverick.

Once the training is over, there are five challenges that will test traversing canyons and over mountains at high speed. The expansion includes access to a hypersonic aircraft capable of speeds of Mach 10, and a mission to fly into the stratosphere, the second-lowest layer of Earth’s atmosphere.

The new Top Gun Update for Microsoft Flight Simulator is now available for free to all players on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox Cloud Gaming and PC.
