Supernova skipper Harmapreet Kaur spoke about the importance of building partnerships after her team defeated the Trailblazers by 49 runs in the opening game of the 2022 Women’s T20 Challenge at MCA Stadium in Pune. The Supernovas got off to a flying start after Deandra Dottin and Priya Punia scored 50 runs for the opening wicket of 30 balls.

But after skipper Harmanpreet and Harleen Deol’s 37-run score, the Supernovas got a little lost, finishing with 163 in 20 overs. Kaur stressed the importance of building more partnerships to keep the opposition under pressure for a longer period of time.

HAPPY AND RELAXED

“The way we wanted to bowl in the second innings, we did very well. Whatever we planned, we were able to carry it out. A fitting game for us. I think we were 20 runs short. Every time I thought about executing myself, we lost wickets. That’s why I had to stay there, looking for ones and twos. We need to look for partnerships. That didn’t work after Harleen and mine,” Harmanpreet said.

Harmanpreet also praised Pooja Vastrakar, who won the Player of the Match award, for taking a four-wicket-haul. After her spell, the Supernovas limited the Trailblazers to 113/9.

“Pooja did a great job for us – that’s what we expected from her. We just have to come back with the same motion. If you win the game, you will be happy and relaxed. Since we won, I don’t think we are very tired,” she added.

Vastrakar also scored a handy 12-ball 14 with one four, giving the Supernova’s innings one last flurry. The Supernovas will defy the Velocity on Tuesday 24 May.
